Maine South Constitution Team honored for recent success

Successes in U.S. Constitutional law and musicianship earned two groups of Maine South High School students recognition from the Park Ridge City Council recently. The school's Constitution Team and representatives from the band, orchestra and choir programs were on hand for the council's Feb. 6 meeting, where they were commended by elected officials. The Constitution Team was lauded for its latest win in the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution competition held Dec. 2 in Chicago. St. Joseph High School will be represented in the national “We the People” competition in Washington, D.C., this spring, if the 20 students involved can raise enough money to afford the trip.Qualifying in early December at the Illinois We the People State Hearing in Chicago, the civics class representatives shined.Not bad for a first-time competition of such magnitude, according to SJ-O social studies teacher Marshall Schacht, who coached the group against seven schools in the state finals, including longtime defending champion Maine South, which was the only school to beat SJO.“St. Joseph students succeed at everything,” Schacht said Read more >
